ATTENDANCE POLICY in language classes

Regardless of the reason, students who miss more than three meetings of a class cannot expect to receive credit for that class.

In addition, if any students are waiting to get into a class that is fully subscribed, any student who is absent from the first and second sessions without excusing him- or herself beforehand will automatically be removed from the list and replaced by one of the students on the waiting list.Students who know in advance that for a good reason they cannot take part in the first or second class meeting must inform the teacher of this in writing at the Börse by noting this on their registration slip.

A word to the wise: We expect all MA/LA students to take an average of at least 3 hours per week of language classes each semester (Semesterwochenstunden = SWS). While this may be enough to maintain your current level of proficiency, if you want to improve your skills, you will want to take more than the minimum required. Language skills must be practised consistently if they are to remain active. Be aware that our planning for future semesters depends to a large extent on actual attendance during the current and previous semesters. When classes are not well-attended, we have no choice but to reduce the number of courses offered the following semester.
